Clavius and Moretus

Captured on August 6, 2006
by negative projection with my Celestron C8, 2.5x Powermate,
moon filter and ToUcam 840 Pro. K3ccdtools capture software,
stacked in Registax, photomerge, unsharp masked, cropped and
saved for the web in Photoshop CS2. Resolution is about 400m per
pixel.
Clavius is the very
large crater dominating the left of this image. About 225kms in
diameter Clavius contains several smaller craters including
Rutherford, a 48 x 54 km crater in the centre of the image.
From Rutherford, and arc of craters decreasing in size extends
to the top left corner of the image. hese are Clavius D, C,
N, J and JA. The 2 craters on the top edge of Clavius are
from Left to right, Calvius L and Clavius K. The
crater on the bottom edge of Clavius is Porter, a 52 km
diameter crater.
On the right hand side of
the image the large crater with the central peak is Moretus,
114kms in diameter. Behind it, lies Short which is 71kms in
diameter, and in front of it is Cysatus, a 49km diameter
crater. Left of Moretus and Cysatus is Gruemberger which
is 94kms in diameter with smaller child crater Gruemberger A
inside.
The crater crossing the top
of the image above Clavius is Blancanus which is a
complex crater of 105kms diameter. |
