Arzachel, Alphonsus
and Ptolemaeus

This mosaic was assembled from two images,
unsharp mask applied and edges cropped in Photoshop CS2. The two
original images were captures with a ToUcam 840 through my
C8 SGT XLT with a 2x barlow. Resolution is approximately 500m
per pixel. Arzachel (left) is
100km diameter. Crater walls are 1000m high and steep. The
central peak is 1500m high. Rimae Arzachel is visible in the
crater floor. Alphonsus (centre) is 121 kms
diameter, with steep tormented crater slopes. Rimae Alphonsus
is
visible in the floor of the crater.
Ptolemaeus
(right) is 158 kms diameter, with high walls. The large flat
floor of the crater contains Ammonius and several ghost craters.
Alpetragius (lower left) is a 41km diameter crater whose core is
shrouded in shadow in this image. The peak of the central
mountain is just visible in this image. |
